To protect the subspecies of Callosciurus prevosti against hybridisation and to keep their genetically purification, it is necessary to identify the members of this squirrel group clearly from their subspecies relatives. Especially on Callosciurus prevosti borneoensis  it is useful, to keep the different coloured populations well devided, since further scientific research on Borneo will clear up, that there are more subspecies than are known right now.
